Operating instructions / care

KAEMP 8848 products are made for tough use. It is clear that they have to be able to cope with a lot. Proper care and treatment are still important so that your KAEMP 8848 products accompany you for a long time. Here you will find operating instructions for our products.

Common sense

To ensure that KAEMP 8848 products last as long as possible, proper treatment and common sense are helpful. No technical outdoor product is happy about being washed at 95 degrees and chemical bleaches are not good for the fabrics. You can find more detailed care instructions here.

Down

Water-repellent treatment

The KAEMP 8848 down products are all DWR ( Durable Water Repellant ) treated on the outside. This makes them water-repellent. Over time, this sprayed treatment will dissolve. So if the jacket has been washed or used a lot, it will naturally lose its water-repellent properties. To restore the lotus effect of the jacket, you can buy and apply a DWR spray. For the sake of the environment, please make sure that this is a product without PFC/PFAS.

Wash

There is a widespread belief that you should not wash down. Although you shouldn't wash down products unnecessarily often, if you take the following things into account, there's nothing wrong with washing your down products every now and then. Do not wash the down too hot and follow the washing instructions. The washing temperature is important because the down is treated with water-repellent wax, which comes off if the wash is too warm. As a result, the down loses its thermal performance when used later when it becomes damp. That's why it's best to wash cold!

dry

To prevent the down from sticking together when drying, we recommend putting the product in a tumble dryer with a few tennis balls after waking up and drying it on the gentle program. The tennis balls make the down fluff up well. Here, too, please be careful not to set the dryer too hot.

storage

Down is a wonderful insulating material for outdoor clothing because it is extremely light and can be compressed into a small space. This does not harm the down over shorter periods of time, but if it is stored this way, the down can lose its fill power. To avoid this, your down products should not be stored in a packing bag, but rather stored uncompressed in a dry place.

Hardshells

Water resistance

PU ( polyurethane ) based hardshells, such as those used by KAEMP 8848, are breathable and waterproof thanks to the membrane incorporated into the material . The PU membrane is not at the outermost point in the multi-layer fabric. The outer cover material is not inherently waterproof, but has a DWR coating. After long use, this coating wears off. This means that the outer fabric of the jacket can become soaked in heavy rain. The membrane underneath still doesn't allow liquid to penetrate inside, but your clothes can feel wet on the outside and lose their lotus effect. To restore this, you can buy and apply a DWR spray. For the sake of the environment, please make sure that the product is free of PFC/PFAS. As an alternative to spraying, you can also wash the hardshell in the washing machine with a DWR detergent. Please follow the washing instructions of the respective detergent manufacturer.

Wash

Of course, an outdoor product gets dirty at some point and belongs in the laundry. The inside of a hardshell also becomes dirty at some point due to the minerals that get onto the product through sweat and impair the breathability of the membrane. To wash a hardshell product, it is important not to wash it too hot. Follow the washing instructions in your respective KAEMP 8848 product and, if in doubt, do not wash it warmer than lukewarm. Close all pockets of your hardshell. When washing, make sure that you do not use powder detergent or any products containing bleach or softening cleaners.

dry

To dry a hardshell, you can either hang it up and air it out, or tumble dry it on low heat.

Softshell

The softshell jacket is usually the jacket that you wear the most. It is exposed to the elements and gets wet on the inside during strenuous activities. Some of the KAEMP 8848 products are DWR treated on the outside and lose their water-repellent properties through both normal use and machine washing.

Water-repellent treatment

DWR coated softshell jackets are water-repellent thanks to the treatment with a DWR finish. If the lotus effect of your DWR coated jacket wears off, this layer can be reapplied. To restore this protection, you can purchase and apply a DWR spray. For the sake of the environment, please make sure that it is a product without PFC/PFAS. As an alternative to spraying, you can also wash the softshell in the washing machine with a DWR detergent. Please follow the washing instructions of the respective detergent manufacturer.

Wash

To wash a softshell, whether it's a jacket or pants, pay attention to the washing instructions inside. It's best to close all zippers and not use washing powder, but liquid detergent. The detergent should not contain softeners or bleach. To restore the water-repellent properties of a KAEMP 8848 jacket, a DWR detergent can also be used. For the sake of the environment, please make sure that the product is free of PFC/PFAS. As an alternative to spraying, you can also wash the hardshell in the washing machine with a DWR detergent. Please follow the washing instructions of the respective detergent manufacturer. However, the maximum washing temperature in the washing instructions for the respective products should not be exceeded. If in doubt, wash at lukewarm water.
