DERMIZAX – THE BETTER MEMBRANE
The rain has been pouring down on you for hours. You're lugging your gear through the terrain, trying to make the best of the weather. You're sweating profusely under your rain jacket, but it doesn't feel stuffy – the jacket is doing its job perfectly: reliably protecting you from the rain and effectively wicking away sweat!
Dermizax was developed in Japan by the company Toray and offers some extremely clever properties compared to well-known membranes such as Gore-Tex or eVent, which are particularly useful in functional mountain sports clothing.
WHAT MAKES DERMIZAX DISTINGUISH?
The Dermizax polyurethane (PU) membrane differs from many other membranes in that it has no clogged pores. The material is hydrophilic, meaning that it contains small, water-loving molecules that transport moisture to the outside. These molecules move more quickly through the membrane at higher temperatures, whether due to the ambient temperature or the wearer's activity. Therefore, as humidity and heat inside the jacket increase, the temperature difference with the outside environment causes more moisture to be transported to the outside.
As with all membranes, whether porous or non-porous, the following applies: without a temperature gradient, there is no breathability. So, for example, if you're running through the jungle at 34°C and an average humidity of 90%, no membrane in the world will be able to ensure a comfortable climate under your jacket. In temperate or cool climates, however, where you are likely to be more often than in the tropics, especially in rainy weather, Dermizax is one of the leading materials in terms of breathability.
Dermizax is made from polyurethane and is 100% recyclable.
In contrast to PTFE membranes, the production of which can generate harmful waste products, Dermizax has a significantly better environmental footprint.
